CREATIVE PRACTICE
Contemporary creative practice by Brazilian composer, arranger, and music director Rafael Piccolotto de Lima, working at the intersection of Brazilian music, large ensemble writing, orchestral music, jazz symphonic language, improvisation, and hybrid contemporary musical practices.
This section brings together artistic projects, music direction, orchestral and large ensemble collaborations, commissioned works, and research-based creative practices developed through collaborations with orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz orchestras, recording projects, and interdisciplinary artistic productions in Brazil, the United States, and Europe.
COMPOSER & ARRANGER
Compositions and arrangements are at the core of my work.
My compositions have been performed and recorded around the globe, including Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, the United States of America, Canada, Austria, Bulgaria, Netherlands, and Japan.
I have studied in depth various styles and composed for diverse ensembles, ranging from traditional to experimental classical music, from jazz to Brazilian and other folk genres. Brad Mehldau, Terence Blanchard, Chick Corea, Gregory Porter, Ivan Lins, and Romero Lubambo are some of the artists that I had the opportunity to write for.
I feel very comfortable navigating between different music styles. My final essay as a Doctor of Musical Arts focuses on the possibilities of amalgam and confluence of distinct musical aesthetics.
If you are interested in buying any of my scores and/or parts to perform my music, please look at my composition's catalog.
